Money Blocks: How to Find the Belief That Is Costing You

Written by the Universilium team. Last updated 18 October 2026.

A money block is a belief you picked up early and never checked. It does not feel like a belief. It feels like a fact, or like a reasonable feeling you get whenever money comes up.

You find yours by saying your money goal out loud and listening for the second sentence. The goal is the first one. The objection that follows it is the block.

What a money block actually is

It is not a mystery and it is not a curse. It is a rule you learned, usually before you were ten, from watching how the adults around you handled money.

Rules like: we do not talk about what things cost. People who have money are not like us. If you want it you have to suffer first. Money goes as fast as it comes.

You never agreed to these. They were in the room. And because they came in before you could argue, they feel less like opinions and more like how the world is.

How to find yours in five minutes

  1. Say your money goal out loud. One sentence. I want to charge 80 an hour. I want six thousand saved by June.
  2. Stop and listen. Something answers. It comes fast and it sounds reasonable.
  3. Write the second sentence down exactly. Not a tidied version. The actual words, in the tone you heard them.
  4. Ask whose voice that is. Often you will know within a second or two. That is useful information, not a reason to blame anyone.
  5. Ask what it costs you. Name one real thing: the rate you did not raise, the invoice you did not send, the account you did not open.

Most people find the same two or three sentences keep coming back. That is your actual work. Not forty affirmations. Two sentences.

The blocks that show up most

I am not the kind of person who has money

Shows up as: not applying, not asking, feeling like a fraud in rooms where money gets discussed. Costs you opportunities you never reached for.

If I ask for more they will leave

Shows up as: underpricing, over delivering, apologising inside the invoice. Costs you the gap between your rate and your worth, every single month.

Having money makes you a bad person

Shows up as: earning well then spending it down fast, giving it away past the point of sense, guilt after good months. Costs you the keeping, not the making.

It will disappear anyway

Shows up as: not looking at the account, not planning, treating good months as luck. Costs you the compounding.

I am bad with money

Shows up as: avoiding the numbers entirely, because looking confirms the identity. Costs you the information you need to fix anything.

How to change one, honestly

You do not delete a belief. You outvote it with repetition and evidence.

  1. Write the old sentence and the new one side by side. The new one must be believable today. One step ahead, not ten.
  2. Get calm before you work on it. A tense body cannot take in a new idea. Slow breathing first, every time.
  3. Rehearse the situation, not the prize. You saying the number. You opening the statement. The moment, in detail.
  4. Collect evidence daily. One line in a journal: today I did the thing the old belief said I could not.
  5. Give it a month. Beliefs formed over twenty years do not move in a weekend.

A money block is not the same as a money problem. If the real issue is debt, income or a contract, get proper advice. Belief work sits alongside that, it does not replace it.

Why hypnosis gets used for this

Hypnosis has a bad reputation from stage shows. What it actually is: deep relaxation plus narrow focus plus suggestion. You are awake. You hear every word. You can stop whenever you want.

The research base is real but specific. It is strongest for pain and for irritable bowel syndrome, where clinical guidelines in some countries list it. It is not a proven treatment for money beliefs, and we will not claim it is.

What it does offer is the calm, focused state where a new sentence meets less argument than it does at your desk at noon. That is why we use it for the belief work in our sessions.

How long this takes

Expect a small shift in the first week, usually as noticing. You catch the old sentence instead of obeying it.

Automatic is slower. In research on habit formation at University College London, led by Phillippa Lally, a new daily behaviour took a median of around 66 days to feel automatic, with a very wide range between people.

So judge this at a month, not at a weekend.

The Abundance was built around exactly this problem

Finding your block is one honest exercise. Changing it is a hundred small repetitions, and that is where people need something holding the structure.

  • The quiz asks how you behave with money, not how you feel about it, because behaviour gives the pattern away faster.
  • It does not lean on one method. Guided hypnosis audio, small daily habits, written reframes and a short journal, matched to your answers.
  • Your protocol runs 30 or 90 days and targets the belief the quiz found, not a generic list.
  • One session a day, about fifteen minutes, as text to read or audio to listen to.
  • The audio sessions use guided hypnosis for the belief work. Relaxed focus, awake the whole time, stop whenever you like.
  • A journal holds your evidence, so in week six you can read what you wrote in week one.

One belief, worked daily, with the calm state that makes it easier to take in. That is the whole design.

Take the quiz The quiz costs nothing to take. You pick your plan at the end.

Common questions

How do I know if I have a money block?

Say your money goal out loud and listen for the sentence that follows it. If something argues back fast and sounds reasonable, that is it.

Can money blocks be cleared in one session?

Finding one takes minutes. Changing one takes repetition over weeks. Be careful with anyone promising to clear it in a single session.

Where do money blocks come from?

Usually from what you saw and heard about money before you were old enough to question it. Family, school, and the first few times money went wrong.

Is hypnosis safe for working on money beliefs?

For most people it feels like deep rest. You stay awake and can stop at any point. Do not listen while driving. If you have a health condition, ask your doctor first.

Will clearing a money block make me more money?

It removes a reason you were not asking, charging or looking. You still have to do those things. The block was the brake, not the engine.
